Foil is the only flexible barrier that is genuinely absolute. A 9 µm aluminium layer transmits effectively nothing — no moisture, no oxygen, no light — and it holds that performance regardless of temperature or humidity. Where a metallized film is measured against a spec, a foil laminate simply ends the conversation.
The engineering question with foil is never the barrier. It is everything else: how the foil is bonded without pinholes or bubbles, how the structure shrinks, how it seals on your machine, and how it survives being flexed. OLUNRO engineers aluminium foil / PE composite film around those questions, using a precision dry lamination process to bond foil to PE and deliver a versatile material that pairs ultimate barrier protection with durability and reliable sealing.
Typically supplied for applications where shelf-life is measured in months or years and failure is not an option.
What the structure gives you
| Advantage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Superior barrier properties | Excellent barrier against moisture, oxygen, light (UV) and contaminants — ensuring product integrity and significantly extending shelf life |
| Enhanced strength and durability | High resistance to puncture, tear and abrasion, protecting contents throughout the supply chain |
| Excellent chemical resistance | Maintains integrity when exposed to oils, greases and many chemicals, suitable for a wide range of products |
| Reliable heat sealability | The PE inner layer allows strong, consistent, clean heat seals — package integrity and compatibility with high-speed automated packaging lines |
| Customisable and versatile | Available in various specifications: different total thicknesses, foil gauges and PE layer types; width and surface treatment can be customised |
Technical specifications

| Aluminium foil thickness | 6 µm, 9 µm, 12 µm, and others |
| Key properties | High barrier, moisture proof, lightproof, good sealing strength |
| Roll specifications | Custom width and length to fit your machinery |
Read the structure column as a decision table rather than a menu:
- AL/PE — the minimum barrier structure. Foil plus a sealing web. Where the pack needs absolute moisture and light block and nothing else.
- PET/AL/PE — the workhorse. The PET outer web adds print quality, abrasion resistance and mechanical protection for the foil, which is thin and easily damaged on its own.
- PET/AL/NY/PE — adds nylon for puncture and flex-crack resistance. The right choice where the pack will be handled hard, dropped, or vacuum-loaded and the foil layer must not be compromised.
Thickness is driven by the tensile and puncture demands, not the barrier — the barrier is already absolute at 6 µm. Foil gauge itself is usually selected on barrier redundancy and handling: a 9 µm foil is more forgiving of flexing than a 6 µm, and 12 µm is specified where the pack must survive repeated handling or a demanding drop test.
The dry lamination advantage
Dry lamination allows the strong, bubble-free bonding of dissimilar materials. The result, compared with simpler extrusion methods:
- Minimal shrinkage — the laminate holds its dimensions through converting and use
- Superior dimensional stability — print registration and seal position stay true
- Consistent barrier performance — no bubble voids or un-bonded lanes where moisture can travel
Why it matters for your product: a lamination defect is not visible on the roll. It appears as a leaker on your line, or as a failed pack at the customer. Dry lamination is a slower and more carefully controlled process than extrusion coating, and that is precisely why it is used for foil structures, where an un-bonded area means a total loss of barrier in that lane.
Primary applications
Moisture- and light-sensitive dry goods — dry foods, snacks, powder products (milk powder, spices), tea and coffee bags, where the absolute barrier protects against moisture pick-up and light degradation.
⚠️ Compliance note on food-contact use. Where the finished pack will contact food or pharmaceutical products, the buyer is responsible for confirming that the structure complies with the applicable food-contact regulation in the destination market — for example FDA 21 CFR 177 in the US or EU 10/2011 in Europe — and for obtaining the corresponding declaration of compliance. Ask us which material documentation is available for the specific structure you are specifying.
Industrial and insulation materials — widely used as a vapour barrier and reflective insulation layer in construction, HVAC ducting, pipe wrapping and cold-chain logistics boxes.
Specialty protective packaging — effective for moisture- and light-sensitive products such as electronics, photographic materials, chemicals and high-value industrial parts.
Beyond the standard range
Because the structure is built rather than bought, the specification is negotiable:
- Width and roll length run to your machine, not to a stock size
- Surface treatment and print-readiness adjusted for your converting route
- PE layer type selected for your sealing conditions — seal-initiation temperature, hot-tack, contamination tolerance
- Total thickness built to your mechanical requirement, from 26 µm upward
Send the contents, the shelf-life target and the machine. We will propose the structure and confirm it before you commit to volume.
